I bought a new Wenger Standard Issue today at a sporting goods store. When I opened the package the blade was uneven and dull, so I reprofiled it, I had to reprofile alot of the blade to get the edge even, and now the edge is too thin and weak:grumpy:. It also has a few chips in the blade where my friend looked at it and closed the blade on the clasp (right after I told him several times to be careful of that). I am not really happy with the knife or the design, and I want to send it to Wenger so they can fix it. But, it says on the package that Wenger doesn't repair sharpened blades because it isn't covered by warranty. The blade was already messed up when I got it, but it looks like I messed the blade up sharpening it because of my futile efforts to fix the problem myself. Do you think they will cover it? I also don't like how you have to pay shipping there AND back so they can fix their mistake:jerkit: . This is the first problem I have ever had with QC on a SAK, but I usually only by Vics. They polished the crap out of the INSIDE of the knife (which is sorta nice, but very unnecessary) but couldn't get the blade sharpened right or polish the can opener well! Anyone had any experience with their CS? I heard Victorinox will repair the knife for free even if it was your fault it was damged, is this true? Thanks for any help.

I would contact them first and explain the situation and see what they say. Vic is generally more liberal and does not charge shipping.

I called them earlier, and the woman I talked to didn't understand my situation and told me to send it in and they would tell me if it was covered:thumbdn: . She also told me I had a certain number of questions I could ask, around five I think?? Overall, they were not helpful and made me doubt sending it in for fear of being charged to fix a knife I don't like. I am going to order a Vic Alox Soldier and be happy, but I didn't want my purchase to be a loss.

I'm betting that if its sent back to Wenger, they'll just send you a new knife. From a corporate standpoint, its easier, plus Wenger is now owned by Victorinox, so alot of corporate attitude is going to cross over. Besides, the Vic soldier and Wenger SI are made to the exact same mil-specs per the requirments of the Swiss military.

I sent it back, and I will let everyone knows what comes of it.

My Wenger SI had a POS edge from the factory as well. However, it didn't need that much work to get it good. Too be taking chips out of the blade from the clasp

Mine has polishing problems as well. Only they didn't do much polishing anything. I don't really care because it's a user. They're other lines are polished very evenly and much better.

That was your fault not Wenger's.

"A few chips" If you told him to be careful of that, why did you let him keep chipping it. I would have takenthe knife away from him after the first chip. That's your friends fault.

Wenger gave you a sucky edge> Pretty sure that's common on the SI. That's all they owe you for. The sharpening job you did is on you. It sounds like you removed steel a little liberally, unless the knife was really screwed up to start with. I was able to make mine work fine with a lot less sharpening.
