Picked up the Evogrip S557 the other day.
Only my 2nd Wenger, the other being the Wenger Mike Horn Ranger, which just looked too cool to pass up. ;)

Most of what I have are Vics, but I'm quite pleased and impressed with this Evogrip.
Feels good in the hand.

Solid and has a nice heft; everything seems tight and well put together. Easily on par with Vics.

Main blade was decently sharp and even locks open. The lock release is a little lever thing that sort of sticks out, which could get hung up on things.

Scissors are small, but tight. They are very mildly serrated which should make them fairly useful. Wenger says they are "self-sharpening"..uhhuh;). Wenger says they are springless, but they do a have a spring.

Has a wrench with two jaw positions. Also has spring. Doubt you'll take off any tire lug nuts with it, but could be handy.

Wengers web page says is has "Patented locking" screwdriver and phillips. Unless they mean something I don't understand, they are not locking. CORRECTION: Obiviously I did not understand:D. They do lock when you are putting pressure on them to screw something, then unlock autmatically when pressure is stopped. Kinda neat now that I know how it works. Thanks to Harayasu for correcting and educating me:thumbup:.

Wenger may be becoming a decent alternative to Vic.

Is the grip ambidextrous?

Just tried it with my left hand, and can't see any reason not to say yes its ambidextrous.
The cork screw winds up in the palm of your hand left-handed, which might be a lttle annoying, but not bad.

I've got mostly Victorinox SAKs, but a number of Wengers too. They're nice and although I prefer Victorinox - mainly because I prefer their can opener, which has a small screw driver, and I have the feeling that Wenger backspring is a bit less strong than the ones on Victorinox - the Wengers are great SAKs too. I also like it how Wenger is experimenting with handles, locking blades and such.

They are locking actually. If you fully open the screw driver and then push on it, you will notice that it locks in place.

This one has a pretty decent edge to it. Can't comment on how it works, don't remember the last time I opened a can. :D

Thats been my feeling too on previous ones I've handle, though this one feels pretty strong, comparable to a Vic.

Agreed. The main blade lock on this one seems to work well. As I said it really does potrude out a bit far, not sure everyone will like that. But at least they are trying new ideas.

Ahhhh. THANK YOU! Added to my education. Took me a few tries to realize they only lock when you are putting pressure on them, which is logical since thats when you want it to lock and you don't have to fiddle with unlocking it once your done.

I have the Evogrip S557 also and I like it alot. I wish Wenger would make the same knife with a saw added. Closest set up like that I found was the Evo S52. No evogrip with similar tools setup. One thing I always wondered was whether or not the scales from a Evo could be swaped out for an evogrip scale? Be a very nice SAK with that setup.
