Our local discount department store had these on a super-duper closeout price so I picked one up for the collection. I've never seen this Wenger lock before, and wondering if any of you guys have experience with using these and/or have any anecdotes regarding the lock strength.

The mechanism appears to work like a lockback, with a lockbar and notch, except the lockbar is disengaged by a press button rather than direct lever action. Lockbacks are often considered to be the strongest and most reliable lock type, but how does the Wenger implementation measure up?

I've got one, the lock is ok but not as strong IMHO as something like the
Buck 110 backlock. I don't like the release on top of the handle. Seems
to easy to accidentally unlock it when you don't want to.
I don't carry or use it as I think the EVO handle shape
is really uncomfortable and feels strange in my hand. Just MHO.

Given the overall strength of the knife, I would think that the lock is adequate. I never rough tested the one I had. But it seemed sturdy enough. IMHO you would probably have a failure of the blade as soon as a failure of the lock, so comparing it to a 110 is a bit much. They fill two different roles. The other aspect of this is considering what conditions the knife will be in when the lock becomes a factor? Its going to be for those little bumps, not stabbing bears. As far as I can tell, it would have the same downsides as a liner lock, as far as inadvertent disengagement, and no one really worries about that.

Given the precision manufacture of the locking mechanism (and the closeout pricing), I returned to the local Blue Light store and bought the remaining stock (both of them) at $12 each. :D
