wenger handyman vs vic handyman

So a couple years ago I bought my son the vic handyman. and a week ago I bought the wenger handyman coz of all of you who extolled the virtues of the swiss army knife saw that was a darn good tool. ( and I agree- the saw works great )

so i saw these youtube videos on the comparisons between the two models concerning the can openers being different, and so I told my boy to go get his and we will see which is better.

we both ended up liking the hooky-ness of the wenger, and being able to pull the blade toward us as opposed to pushing the blade forward with the vic. I noticed that my son ( being 12 yrs ) had an easier time physically to manipulate the wenger can opener.

I realize both knives work well, and with practice you'd get better, but I really thought that I was gonna like the vic style better, but there's no substitution for trying it out for yourself.

Geez I love both of those knives, at first, I thought about conning my son out of his, but I know I prolly will get a vic handyman to buddy up to the wenger.

What are some other "have to have" vics or wengers according to you guys?
thanks,
John

Nice comparison, next time take some pics ;)
Victorinox farmer is a winner in my book, and also the Huntsman is in my pockets often. :)

I also like the Wenger can-opener better.

Interestingly, 20 years ago, Wenger suggested I do a comparitive test between the Vic SwissChamp and Wenger's equivalent, which was then called the Major. When I contacted Victorinox UK, they completely 'bottled' it, so Wenger supplied the test knife. In my opinion, the Victorinox knife was considerably better than the Wenger, but fair-play to Wenger (as was) for having so much faith in their product, and it's a shame Victorinox UK weren't up for it.

Ah, the ol' Vic vs Wenger can opener debate. :D

I think the Wenger can opener is better for opening cans, but I prefer the Victorinox can opener because it has the small driver at the tip. The small driver is good for phillips screws, and the t-handle position of the dedicated philips driver doesn't always work in tight spaces so it's good to have an in-line driver that can tackle those little phillips screws.

As far as must-have SAKs, the most bare-bones I can go is the Fieldmaster. I consider that one a must-have. Any less than that and I feel naked. I typically carry around a Craftsman these days when not at work. At work lately it's been a Deluxe Tinker.

I've got a Vic craftsman that I like -real good set of tools without being huge. But I've also acquired a Champ, and it's real nice for a belt sheath. I think the Champ would be the cats meow if they added their serrated blade in addition to the regular one, and maybe the combo tool beneath it or some other blade for ha has. There are too many good SAKs...

Can-opener-wise, I prefer the Vic. Using it has always been very quick and easy for me, and I use mine every time I need to open a can without a pull-top.
