I just received an early Father's Day gift from my girl, it the wenger evo 10 I have had in my amazon for months waiting to pull the trigger.

I love the knife, but now I have a dilemma, with the wenger brand no longer in the knife business, should I keep this one mint for the collection, or put it in my pocket and use it?

How about wenger knives in general? Should we be buying these up before they are all gone or overpriced like the USA schrades?
I wish I would have bought a bunch of 8OT and 34OT before schrade closed. Too late now.

I thought they were keeping the SI in production when they updated the soldier, but that doesn't seem to be the case, now I wish I would have picked up a few before it happened.

I prefer to carry victorinox, but sure wouldn't mind carrying this one around a while and see if that preference changes.

I'd use the heck out of it, it's what it's made for. I've got my trusty Wenger SI that is use, and I know that I won't be able to replace it if something happens. But on the other hand, we're only here once, may as well have fun with our stuff while we have it.

Use it. There are so many Wengers around that it won't be worth any more than you paid for it during our lifetime. Check ebay for swiss army knives, Wenger - last time I checked there were over 3000 listed. I buy most of my Vics and Wengers off ebay as used knives; better value, condition is usually excellent (maybe a little oil and sharpening). I suspect that Vic will incorporate some of the Wenger models in their line just under the Vic trademark.

I had it in my pocket all day yesterday, had to use the can opener a couple times and the blade more than once, so I guess it's a user now.
I know most swiss Amy knives will never have a lot of monetary value due to the sheer numbers they are produced and the low cost they sell for. Still contemplating picking up a few wenger models I like just to be sure I have them for future generations.

I have to second that one. I´d also use it as it is. For sure, it´s your decision, but you will regret if you haven´t used that tool as it has been made for. Just my 02 Cent.

A knife like that is meant to be used. You received a great gift and you should enjoy it.

it won't go up in value overnight.
but why not keep it mint for your grandchildren
i'm sure you have other knives for actual use.

It no longer mint, but I am not going to beat it up, think I might make it my off work knife and carry one of my many Vics while at work, that's where they receive the most use and also the most wear and tear.
I want it to be in good shape so I can pass it on to my little future knife nut in training.

No one in your lineage will ever have had that model in their wishlist for months.

Get some pleasure out of using it, but take care of it like you would any moderately priced but maybe tough to replace item, so it'll be around to hand off to someone down the line.

I'd say I like your decision. No knife should be a safe queen (thought I do have a fe that are). Knives are meant to be used. I only safe queen victorinoc rare limited edition alox knives and heck I even use some of those. :D

Just use it buddy... (and bought a spare just for your piece of mind.. they wont break your wallet anyway =) )
