When I was young…I was of course attracted by enough big, murdered looking blades. Chopping and batoning big pieces of woods were nearly the only activities that I was ready to take into consideration, at the time. Stupid young guy.
Step by step, luckily I have to say, my knowledge has growth, my taste in knives’ matter has changed, and (ironically) the blades measure of my knives has decreased: from 7-8” to a more reasonable 3”-4”.
Nowadays, a small, comfortable fixed blade and a tiny multitool is all I need, every time everywhere. Maybe I’m on the right way to find the wisdom? Hope so.
Prejudices are anyway one of the biggest obstacle to change and growth: so let’s speak about my prejudice about serrated blades. I hated serrated blades. Why? Really don’t know: I guess just because the majority of people hated them, and because of their look.

Finally, after some serrated knives that I was forced to use (no alternatives were available) I changed my mind

Serrated blades they cut polymers and ropes better than straight blades, you know

Fibrous materials – as the bamboo which is a kind of grass - are easier to cut whit a serrated blade

Cotton and other tissues are easier to cut too whit a serrated blade

What about our beloved wood? A serrated blade for me works neither more nor less than a straight blade

Having tried several serrated blades, my prejudice about them are zero now. I still like more the look of a straight blade, anyway actually I think that a serration is a plus, at least on a survival blade.
Ciao,

I like some of the advantages they give, but for me the added difficulty in sharpening isn't worth it.
