I've been searching for the perfect combo of tools on my EDC SAK. All I've ever owned is Victorinox and I've been very pleased with them. My Victorinox Ranger, although a very capable knife for camping, is way too big for EDC.
My searching led me to the conclusion that Victorinox doesn't make the combo I wanted. I needed a nail file, scissors, corkscrew, main blade, screwdriver, can opener, caplifter, tweezers and toothpick.
I found the answer in the Wenger Traveller. I was leary at first of the Wegner brand, but I've since come to love it. Quality is the equal or better than most Victorinox's I've owned. However, it would be nice to buy a SAK, either brand, with a sharp blade! The scissors are superior to those found in Victorinox versions simply because they don't use that wimpy spring. The knife also has an awl, but I wish it had a sewing hole and was sharpened on the side for scraping like on the Vic. I think the can opener will also be superior to the Victorinox's, but I miss the mini screwdriver on the tip. I also like the little chain instead of the tiny split ring on the Victorinox. It gives enough reach for my Photon light to be useful. The micro screwdriver from my Victorinox also fits the corkscrew of the Wegner. What could be finer? The only changes I'd like to see are better steel for the main blade, black micarta handle, and a longer nail file.

Lenny,
You make a good case for the Wenger, I've always leaned toward Victors. I currently carry the Super Tinker, has everything I like and isn't too bulky. Was pleasantly surprised to find that the large blade was serrated. Broke the tip prying with it in an emergency not too long ago.
Tried to replace it, but can't find another like it. Do you know which Wenger would be the equivalent to mine?

Are you sure it's a Victorinox Super Tinker?
I did'nt know Victorinox made a serrated Super Tinker.

Good luck,
Allen.

allenc,
no guess I'm not sure which one it is now. Maybe you can tell me. Or maybe it's a mechanic model since it has pliers? Also sissors, small blade, screw drivers/opener on top. Awl,hook, phillips screw tip on bottom. I really like this model, half serrated large blade and all.
Hope I can find a replacement for it someday, these are the best knives for the money.

Sorry Kurt, I have no clue what model SAK you have.
It sounds very interesting and very nice (I collect SAKs), so if you find out what it is and where to buy them, let the rest of us know.
Maybe it was a limited production knife or one only released in Europe.

Good luck and happy hunting,
Allen.

Ok, found it. It's a deluxe tinker, I've found knifeoutlet.com or cutleryshoppe.com hard to beat for prices.

Thanks for the info.
I guess that will be another SAK add to the collection.

Cheers,
Allen.
