Wenger Signal Mirror/Knife

I have one of these. There's some contention on the SOSAK forum that these weren't actually made by Wenger, just marketed by them. But it's unclear who. They seem to be decent quality, but have absolutely no markings on them. The knife blade is a razor, thin serrated chisel ground, would make a neat little neck/keychain knife with a sheath. The tweezers and toothpick are decent. The little combo tool is OK. It, too, would make a nice keychain pry/nailfile/bottle opener tool.

edcdepot seems to still have them for sale.

Removed. Gone. Kaput.

Weird glitch at Ebay-- try searching on 270074656736 and it is still there. The seller has hundreds of items and a 100% rep. My first thought was that she got caught up in one of Ebay's VeRO snafus or a tradmark infringment.

If EDC Depot has 'em, that is a good source too.

I just thought it was one of those "interesting boy toy" items. For $7, what the heck! It is a lot like the Tool Logic credit card tool, but has a mirror. My current "dedicated" signal mirror is a thin plastic one from REI. Coghlans handles the same one now. Light and cheap, but not real impressive. I would rely more on the one in my sighting-style compass. I did note that the highly polished blade of an SAK might work in a pinch-- I flashed myself in the eyes the other night while inspecting the blade on mine and made a mental note to use that as a back-up. Another last-ditch signal mirror is to gut the reflector from your flashlight.

One thing I've noticed is that several times, the bottle opener is referred to as a can opener. Now, I haven't opened any bottles with it, but I have attempted to open a can with the tool, with no success.

Yeah, it doesn't overload me with the "toolishness" abilities. You could clean small game with it or maybe use it with your firesteel.

If you really wanted to go this way, a small blade like this one has, with whistle, compass, mirror, LED light and a flint mounted down the side wouldn't be too hard to make.

I didn't know Wenger made anyhting like this. I was searching for signal mirrors on Ebay and came up with a "credit card tool" that is a mirror, small blade, file, toothpick, tweezers, etc. Not bad for $7 with shipping.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270074656736

I got it in the mail today. Not bad for the money. The blade is sharp, but the handle is too small for anything more than cleaning a fish or a small bird, trimming line, etc. It has a wavy serration. Toothpick and tweezers are okay, but not as good as the usual SAK stuff. The other pull-out tool has a bottle opener, screwdriver and nail file. The mirror is polished metal and etched around the edges to make an oval. Th eetching is fine enough to allow reflection from those areas too. There are inch and millimeter scales on the long sides of the back. There are no country or orgin or steel ID markings. I'll put it in one PSK or another. Not astounding, but worth the $$.

I used to EDC a Vic Swiss Card. I just ordered one from the eBay ad. Looks like it might be a neat item to have on inventory. I haven't bought anything that was stamped Wenger in a while.
