I just got a WengerGrip 76 today. I'm having a hard to deciding whether I like it or not. What's your opinion on these monsters?

I like them but not as much as the new Ranger series that have the folding pliers into the handle.

Thanks for the reply Tim.

The knife and saw blades are much larger than I expected. My main disappointment is the pliers. They're a bit smaller than I expected (esp. considering the size of the handle) and don't appear to be as versatile as those on the SwissTool. Have you used the WengerGrip pliers much?

Also, I noticed that wenger-knife.ch lists the WengerGrip and PocketGrip on their site (under the category "multi-tool") but it's not on wengerna.com. Any idea why they aren't selling them in the US? Are they going to be discontinued and replaced by the new Rangers?

I thought the pocketgrip was discontinued, several years ago they were selling for $10 each, I bought a bunch and gave/traded away all but one, kinda wish I had kept an extra one now.

That was a pretty good deal on the PocketGrips!

I also thought they had been discontinued but the PocketGrip and the WengerGrip are still being manufactured today (my WengerGrip is dated one month ago!). I'm not sure why they aren't selling them in the US anymore. It may have been due to a lack of demand.

According to Doug Ritter of Equipped.com:
Wenger introduced its SwissGrip model in 1996, essentially adding a blunt nose pliers to an extra large Swiss Army Knife (similar in form and function to the SOG Tool Clip, but larger), but it was both over-sized and over-priced and under-marketed. As a result, few retailers carried it and with the exception of a few SAK enthusiasts, most never realized it exists. link
and
Other multi-purpose tools on the market (SOG "Toolclip," Al Mar "4x4," Wenger "SwissGrip," etc.) are much bulkier, offer fewer tools and do not have needle nose or thin nose pliers, a significant disadvantage for many purposes. link

Both quotes were about the SwissGrip/WengerGrip. The high MSRP and lack of marketing may have also affected sales of the PocketGrip.

Unlike the SwissGrip/WengerGrip, the PocketGrip was offered with blunt or needle nose pliers.
