Went Cod Fishing at Montauk Today with my SAR3 set up as a necker, worked perfectly!

Went fishing out of Montauk point, long island (NY) for cod today and got a chance to use my new (to me) SAR3 set up as a necker with a mashed cat flat sheath (came with it) today and it worked flawlessly to handle all my tasks for bleeding and gutting all my fish and cutting knots and bait. The micarta gripped my hands very well even though they were wet and slimy the whole time. Just a very nice size blade for this set up. I know some of you have said it was too big as a necker but it works as I had a sweater and layers on. I also have a swamp warden and the profile is very thin so that's a designated summer necker with my t-shirt. Very happy with my SAR3!

nice catch, you'll be eatin good tonight. sweet knife too- I take my SAR3 with me for trout and strippers, it's perfect.

Glad you like it. I owned a SAR 3 for all of a couple hours, but it will be back to me soon with a sheath. I can't wait.

Thanks guys, this pic just shows the last 2 picked up on the last drop before steaming home. We killed em today, bacala and ling fillets, now I gotta get some bacon involved and do some bacon fish wraps! Ha!
 
That's his air bladder that pops out, he basically had the bends from coming up so fast from deep water just to meet my SAR3 to be on his Neck, ha... The SAR3 also doubles as a handy fish air bladder puncturer theres nothing you cant do with it! Next time gonna try out my Cultie I think that will work very nice as well..
 
I've been developing a small fixed-blade fetish lately, and the SAR3 is a major instigator.

Great to see one being put to good use.

Bacon fish wraps sound awesome!
 
A bit nippy yesterday. Today should be nicer. I love fishing. Don't love the cold. Can't wait til April to go fishing myself.
 
Thanks pokey! It was kinda still smellin like fish no matter how much I scrubbed it yesterday, but now it doesn't smell at all! LOL... Had cod and ling fillets for days, my SAR3 was just great!
 
Looks great, I love the SAR 3.

My son had to throw his cloths away after working the docks in AK.

That sounds amazing!!! The "eating the fish" part, not smelling like one!!!:D
