So this is my first post in quite some time on Bladeforums and first for this p'ticular one. I've posted some before on the Becker forums and then fell out of visiting for a while. Anyway, I've been lurking around the Kabar forum here since it opened up, so I decided to post some hiking shots.

This hike is above where I live in Pearl City, Hawaii. Nice hike, just long enough to be satisfying and strenuous enough to feel good afterwards. Today was a beautiful day. It seemed like we might get rained out at first, but then it cleared up and was nice and bright for our hike. These are just some shots of the scenery where I live. (Lucky live Hawaii!)

I always take this knife with me hiking. Tough enough to handle anything that I might possibly have to do, long enough to be useful for defense against pigs/dogs/crazies or to chop through stuff, small enough not to be in the way when I'm climbing over rocks or want to sit down.

This little pool is at the bottom of the valley the trail leads into. There're ropes on it to swing from and a few pools above it, but I've never gone swimming myself. The water always just looks too cloudy and nasty.

That's it. Won't be my last post here (I love Kabar's stuff, have a Warthog, Kukri and Heavy Bowie, too). Just wanted to share some of my fun.

FANTASTIC POST!!!! Yar, great pics, brother, and Oh, I'm so jealous. That scenery looks spectacular.

I've never been to Hawaii before, I would like to go there, but eh, if it happens, it happens.

Diggin' that Kabar, looks like she's seen some love.

Any issues with rust (:D) in that tropical spot?

Please, please post up more pics of your knives and region. I'll print them out and stick them on the walls of my cubicle, so it will look like I'm there. :D

Great thread, brother, thanks.

the only thing better then a waterfall at the end of a hike is a cold six pack... or both at the same time!

thanks for the pics!

Heh, thanks, Moose. :D

Hawaii's a beautiful place, but some of the best spots (as usual) are far from the usual touristy locations. And right now is the wet season, of sorts. Lots of cloud and overcast and sprinkles and mosquitoes. That said, there's really no place I'd rather live. :D

That Kabar is my favorite fixed blade and was the first serious outdoorsy fixed blade I ever got. I call him Fidelis (anybody else name their knives or is it just me?) and he's chopped and cut quite a bit, along with being my hiking sidekick. My go-to knife for strange happenings in the middle of the night, too.

As for rust, not really. I try to stay on top of oiling my knives and polishing away any rust that does pop up. Usually only if I've used them and didn't wipe 'em off after I washed 'em. Happens more to my Cold Steel SK-5 knives than the Kabars, and they're all stored in the sheath.

Here's a few more photos for you to surround y'self with. No knives in 'em, but I'll add them when I take them. Enjoy!

This is the view from Diamond Head lighthouse, which isn't a hike per se but a really good steep stiff walk.

Those are the hotels of Waikiki down there in the lower right.

These guys live at the start of the trail that I posted photos of earlier. Piggy there is one reason to carry a good knife!

Kabars are some awesome blades for sure. I asked about rust, because, basically, I don't really care about it. :D Rust happens, deal with it, move on, but some folks obsess over it. Users don't get rusty. :D

The 1095CV that Kabar uses, has a little more resistance to corrosion, I've found, and are one tough ass knife.

I've also heard the wild pigs on the islands are not to be underestimated, and are quite tasty. :D

Great post, again brother, and please, stick around, its good to have ya here.

Quick question. Are you a lefty, or do you cross draw the USMC?

I just noticed in that shot of you standing there, that you wear it on your left side.

I'm not sure about HH, but I'm a righty, and alot of times, I load up my blade on my left. Especially when I am carrying a gun as well, which is quite often. I actually like a crossdraw for longer blades (BK9, Cutlass, 1217, etc) as its easier to draw the blade, and resheath it.

That's one of the reasons why the old style leather sheaths just had a belt stud, because you could sleeve the sheath between the belt and the pants, and ride a horse.

I am a righty who prefers a crossdraw for fixed blades. I carry a folder in my right hand front pocket and it just feels more natural to me to draw across. I unsnap my sheaths with my left hand, or draw reverse edge-out with my left if I have to, and I feel less likely to stick myself in the hip when I put blades back in the sheath. Also keeps my pack from tangling in it when I drop it off my right shoulder.
