Finally had a chance to get out of the house and take a little hike at Stub Stewart State Park. I talked my wife and niece into heading out with me!! The overcast sky and cold day did not hinder our little outing. The trail was sloppy with mud as these trails are shared with folks on horseback.
This was the first chance I had to take my Falcon II out for a test drive. I have outfitted it with two TAD Gear round pouches. The TAD pouches hold my Guyot SS water bottles, nesting cups, fuel for my MSR Pocket Rocket and a flexable wire bail. I had my stove nested inside a Snow Peak cup that was tucked into the main compartment of the Falcon. The rest of the pack held shed layers, my BK9, some snacks and the rest of my usual kit. I was impressed with how well the pack carried and the weight distribution. I did have some reservations about the comfort level of the pack while I was loading it up, but all in all it really performed well for a day pack.
We found a nice place off trail next to a pond and a little waterfall to stop and rest. Once we found our little slice of Heaven I got busy making tea for the ladies and myself. We had a few snacks and enjoyed the calming rush of the little waterfall! I had the BK9 in the pack as this is a pretty populated park and I didn't want to scare the locals. It was nice however to know the BK9 was in the pack if I needed or wanted it. I did take it out the strip some fir brances to sit on.
It was a fantastic outing!
