Ok, so sometimes I jump the gun and impulse buy. Perhaps this time it's because I recently had another daughter, my third..and according to my wife our last. She said something about an office visit, scapel, bags of ice : ( Suddenly, I had a strong desire to exponentially increase my testosterone level.
Here's what I ended up with:
Gerber LMF - excellent shape and doesn't appear to have been used.
Gerber BMF, a user for sure. Shows signs of possible rust or pitting.
Linder survival/bowie type knife in very nice shape, though I understand that it's not the quality of steel some other knives have. But still a nice looker and black rubber-type grip that's very comfortable.
Ritter's large and small BM 552 & 558? (they're on the way to me).
A Katz Lion King (XT70 steel) NIB that I might have dealed for today.
And lastly, the real juicer, a Gerber Coffin bowie that's also in unused condition.
I already had other various Bucks, SAKs, Leatherman, etc.
I'm not a collector. I just want a small selection of knives for hunting, camping, survival, EDC, etc. A nice flashlight or 2 would be nice. I know you all started that way, but I'm trying to really cut down on the guns, gear, etc. My oldest child is my son and he's taken to hunting/shooting so I do keep some to pass down, but it's time to clean the closets and safe.
Aside from the Katz and Ritters, none of my purchases were really on my list and I can't decide if I want to keep them. Then I saw a Sebenza Pheasant Tail and now I'm drooling. I'm confident I'll like the Ritter's, though curious to see which size feels better. The smaller is in yellow, so it's really for a kit. The Pheasant would make an extremely nice EDC and be the most I've ever spent on a knife.
So here's my question (finally): What tasks can be accomplished with:
LMF (or should I sell it to a collector and sitck with Katz, BK7, or something along those lines).
BMF chop my shed down? Maybe a nice project knife for someone?
Coffin Bowie What is a bowie really designed for? Light machete work perhaps? Not much heavy jungle in these parts, though I remember wanting a machete to chop my way to a favorite fishing hole. Is it a crime to use this Coffin?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
