got tired of looking at the rought epoxy finish on it, so got out the stripper and went to work.........then took some emery cloth and went to work........results are a smoother cutting blade.....i guess less resistance due to the smooth blade side.

i like it............

still got some polishing to do in the corners with the dremel tool, at the edge of the tang.

cant decide if im going to leave it at this level of polish or try to make it like a mirror :D be good for signal duty with it like that tho hehe.

Try using some Scotch-Brite. I really like the finish that leaves. It is shiny, but it has tiny little scratches. If you're going to do it, make sure you do it evenly so all the scratches go one way. Not only does the finish tend to hide scratches better, but if you ever get scratches on the blade, you can just refinish it with Scotch-Brite and it'll go back to the way it was.

I think it would be gorgeous with a full mirror polish. In fact, there is a good chance I would go that route if I ever ended up making some scales for mine...

I'm a little curious how that 51200 steel (0170-6C) will hold up against the elements as I put mine away in the kydex over night once while still moist after wiping it off and there was some very light rust showing on the edge bevel the next day.

Maybe use scotchbright on the flats, and polish the edges kinda how it looks in the pic.

50100B, not 52100. Not a huge deal, but to help prevent any confusion. 52100 has ~3 times the chromium, but that's still just 1.5%, so rust is still an issue wither way. It also has some silicon, while 50100B has vanadium.

How'd you go about it with the paint stripper? Just dip it in for a period of time and wipe the coat off? I'd be interested in what steps you took and how long they took you.

I'm thinking about doing the same with my BK9.

went to the walmart and got the spray stripper, kleenstrip premium stripper, cost about 5.00 for the spray can, used two applications of it, each time let it sit for about an hour.

basically just whiped it off and then took the sand paper to it.

it all actually went pretty fast from start to finish, the longest thing was letting the plati-coat dry on the handle.
