Went shopping today

In a previous post, I mentioned that I had to warranty return a brand new BM 710D2 because of cosmetic flaws ("bent" tip, visible space on the G10 backing and chips on one of the SS liners). Admittedly, that was my first "big" folder and I actually liked it a lot since the extra bit of handle made the knife feel far more secure in my hand. So I decided to go out shopping to try and find a relatively inexpensive large yet legal sized folder to hold me over till my 710 was returned from BM.

I was all set on buying either an Spyderco Endura or maybe up the budget a bit and get a Manix. Haven't bought a Spyderco yet and because of the rave reviews, I thought it might be a good time to get one. Didn't end up getting one though. I'm sure they're awesome knives but I couldn't get over the blade design. Personal style preference. Wasn't too comfortable with the locks either. Just isn't my thing, I suppose (yet ... still planning to buy one when I have the money).

Then I saw "it" sitting in the counter. Haven't seen one in person so my curiosity was piqued from the get go. Wasn't really thinking about getting one of those quite yet but it's another knife that seemed to be very highly praised here. Really didn't want to actually even hold it after reading from post after post that after holding one, it tends to scream quality. But I broke down and asked to see it. Big mistake.

It felt great in my hand. Felt light yet strong. The little finishing touches such as the "rounded" spine was a very nice surprise. After purchasing a BM Mini Skirmish, I began to really appreciate framelocks because of their sheer "beefiness". Couldn't deal too well with the Mini Skirmish as an EDC just because of the tip down configuration. Didn't feel so safe (for me).

As I was literally fondling this knife, I saw another knife out of the corner of my eye. A Benchmade 806D2. Knowning the fact that they're discountinued and reading the posts here questioning why it was discontinued, I wanted to hold one in my hand to see for myself to see if I should purchase it instead.

Amazingly enough, I'm going to be another person who wants to know why the 806 was discontinued. It's a really nice knife. So nice that I wanted to purchase it. Either knife was well out of my original budget but the 806 was sort of in budget if compared to a Manix. But I really wanted to buy "it" because ... well, it felt so right. So what's a person that's on this forum supposed to do.

Buy both. ;)

After going WAY over my "tide me over" budget, I'm a broke yet happy owner of a 806 and "it".

"It" being a Chris Reeve Large Regular Sebenza. :D

And I also got a chance to check out a Strider SnG. Hate to say it but it might be my next purchase.

I need a cheaper hobby.
