Hey peoples,

I just got back in the evening yesterday (and if I'd seen Robbie's reply to my earlier post, I'd have an autographed Revolver about now...argh...I didn't have internet!)... My wife and I went all the way to Smoky Mtn. Knifeworks to get a look at SOG knives (plus to enjoy the sights, sounds, and food...lots of food...) Well, I don't have many pics since I only had my phone, but I did see some nice knives.. I'd heard that Force was pretty thick...but good grief.. It was thick. Thick point too. Idk why, but it wasn't really my cup of tea, a tough piece of steel, but not for me.

I looked at the Creed, Force, Gov-Tac, and Tech-Bowies. Also, looked at the
Seal Team (Elite), Pup Elite, and 2000. I LOVED the Seal 2k...nice weight and
balance and thickness. (Although, I read a report on here, that the Elite has proven to outperform the 2k.. Aus-6 vs Aus-8a w/ cryo.. Well. Seal Elite/Pup--I've had em' n' had em' stolen. Blah.

Problems (as far as I see them):

Creed/Gov-Tac:Can't see if the blade is ground where the blade/guard join.
Can't see if the tang is rounded or left squared at this point, which can create a pressure-sensitive area. I hate leather sheaths.

Tech:Same problem. Thin point. Extremely attractive though.

I have considered the Super Bowie...again, tang issues, and the leather handles are problems for me. Is it possible to replace the leather handle with
something similar to the creed, for example?

Pro's.

Creed/Gov-Tac:Thick. More shallow swedging. Hollow-grind and sharp enough to shave my beard. The grind is shallow enough, and is gradual which allows it to slide when splitting wood a little more easily. Guard/Pommel are attractive. Usual
price (Inet) $160+

Tech-Bowie:Just plain beautiful. $120+

Force:Stout. Short. Thick. Sharp. $120+

Seal Pup (Elite):(From experience), it was a tough, sharp lil' sucker. Held up. 3/16ths, point was decent.
Multi-faceted. $60-70+
Seal Team (Elite):(" "), it was tough, larger, sharp. Held up. 1/4 in, point was a bit better. Multi-faceted. $85+

Most of the SOG fixed-blades were hansom, well-built working-knives. It's extremely difficult to choose. I handled several
of them. I also played around with a multi-tool (can't remember which one, and the Seal Revolver--again, a nice knife.)

Oh, we had a great time in Tennesse, the people are very warm and friendly and the sights are great! SMKW has quite alot of things to look at! I also found an incredible pair of boots!! Nice place! It was a great honeymoon. :-)

*I did consider the Force..but, ah idk. I love the Creed and Super..what can I say. Oh, btw, for all of you fellow hikers and survival-types, I DID notice that the Force's spine is rounded, and wouldn't likely take a well to a fire-steel, which is a sore-point. But it IS super thick, point included. Also fairly heavy, for it's size. It's as deeply ground as the Seal-Team on the edge however.

:-) You all should make time and go to SMKW, it has alot to offer! I had a great time.
