So I have bought a TON of INfo over the last few months and after serious trial and error have narrowed the users and EDC's to the following. The only undecided is the BATAC. I still might decide on the Hell Razor if one will stay still long enough for me to bag it on the exchange.

I have been able to handle and accumulate a few beautiful Busses and rats, but decided to keep only these.

On a side not please admire the beautiful chip on the FBM. No one told me that it will not cut through hidden concrete. Who knew?

I wouldn't be a busse fanatic if I didn't point out that that's not actually a chip, the edge has been pushed to the side, showing infi's plasticity at high hardness. were it a chip, there wouldn't be any metal located at the point of the chip. steel chips/fractures similar to glass, in that chips don't deform to much around the metal that breaks away. infi has shown a tendency to tear away before fracturing.

That is a nice and complete (at least in terms of fuction) set of knives . I am doing some soul searching on my set as well and trying to narrow it down a little. Very nice Mistress you have there

Whoa...INFI steel appears to be prone to chipping and quite brittle. Too bad they don't use S30V. My CRK Green Beret hasen't chipped yet.

yeh S30v is dog's backside when it comes to chipping...lol...I dropped a custom blade in s30v onto concrete once and it chipped massive chunks off the edge..had to do a complete reprofile of the edge and tip after that...

Smack that puppy against some concrete, and get back to us... bring PIX, LOL. ;) :D:D

Yea that S30v is great steel but has nothing on infi.. S30v will shatter to pieces while infi will just bend and deform under destruction testing.. Hmmm do a little research and get back to us... good luck :p

bro, that's an awesome set of users!

and you will love the hell razor if you pick one up...

LVC: Well put above. ;)

gusthefish: excellent collection there man. Let us know what you do with the Badger. :)

Wow- I did not mean to feed the trolls. As LVC pointed out it is NOT a chip. I also swung it FULL Force into the edge of my concrete walkway(in my defence it was hidden by the monkey grass).

A quick question- Since the metal is still there I assume i can "fix" the blemish. Is there a good thread anyone can point me too showing the way. I have heard mention in someone else's thread about "steeling" but have no idea.

Thanks

I would also like to know how you fix a ding like that.

I have a couple of BMs (one old and one relatively new) that I use in the backyard.
So far I've not hit any rocks or cement but if I do it would be good to know the
recommended way to make the fix.

Thanks,
Rich

Great set of Busse blades!

Send her to me, I'll test the green beret for you and I'll make sure the s30v will chip. Did you ever looked at Mr. Stamp his review?

You can try and recover some of that roll by steeling very aggressively on that area with firm pressure. A standard kitchen knife steel or just a hard smooth surface is fine. If that doesn't work then you can use a small screwdriver and mallet to try and tap that edge back out followed by aggressive steeling to align everthing back up.

I've got a Basic 9 that has a much smaller, but similar rolled spot on the edge. I don't know what I hit, but I figure it was a rock. I was chopping firewood on the ground by flashlight/firelight. I didn't realize it until I pulled it out of the kydex sheath a couple of days later and noticed that the roll was picking up kydex from the sheath. If someone could point me to a little more detailed tutorial on how to "fix" it I'd appreciate it as I'm sharpening challegned.

There is a big difference in a "chip" and a "dent". With a chip, the metal is lost, with a dent, the metal has been moved. Now, you might not be able to "move" the dented metal back to where it originally was (I.E; put the full edge back in place), but you might get some back, plus the piece of mind knowing it wasn't a knife (edge) failure, just a surface (concrete) the knife wasn't intended to be used on. Lets see what you S30V does to a concrete block! Or rather what a concrete block does to your S30V knife. I'm sure Chris Reeve would say he didn't intend on his knives be used on concrete blocks either.

Thanks very much, Ban!
