The wife and I are going to be making a little visit to Philadelphia in April for four days. Neither one of us has been there and we'd like some advice on the best spots to hit on our short visit. Cheesesteaks are high on my list, (best places?) she wants to check out some huge mall :barf: (maybe one with a good knife store? or at least a decent bar!)

We're gonna do the Zoo, Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall, maybe the King Tut exhibit. What else should we check out? Any good knife stores? Does Philly have any extra ordinances about blade carry I should know about? Thanks for any help.

Check out the Mutter Museum. Lots of medical oddities on display. Cheesesteaks.....man, that is a tough call. I have been to quite a few places on Rittenhouse Square that have some really good cheesesteaks but the most popular places are Geno's Steaks and Pat's King Of Steaks. Jim's Steaks are good, too.

I was there years ago and ate at a really great Hogie shop. Can't recall the name, but it was near the Liberty Bell, and I think it had some sort of patriotic theme. Not much help, I know, but it was some darn fine eating.

The Art Museum, City Hall, The Franklin Museum of Natural History, all of the buildings around Constitution Hall. The US Mint and the USS Olympia are also very interesting places to visit. Betsy Ross and Edgar Allen Poe's house are also close to center city.

Try some cheesecakes and hot Pizza Steak sandwiches

There are a lot of cool places to go. Shoot me a email. I'll put together a list of places to check out. The big mall your wife wants to spend your hard earned money at is called Franklin Mills, just outside of the city. Sorry no knife stores. The only place you have to be careful with you knife is the historic spots. Cheese Steaks rule. :D

hi guys. nice to meet you all in here. i'm from philly, too, slice&dice. my first impression regarding the "big mall" was that she probably meant King of Prussia Mall which is just barely outside philly and is i believe the 2nd biggest mall in the US. it's very nice. for the standard cheese steak trip, Pat's or Geno's are definitely the ways to go.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Special thanks to slice&dice as well for sending us the nice list of places to check out. Thanks!

BTW-It was the King of Prussia mall wifey wanted to see. I have since managed to talk her out of that since our time will be limited and there are so many [more important] things to see. USS Olympia gets my vote for sure!

I was in philla on Saturday, you could always go to the Casino's right outside the City, its just slots but its an idea. I had Tony Lukes on sat, I have eaten at Patts and Geno's both are good but can be VERY crowded.

Penn's landing. You gotta check it out. There is a Dave & Buster's arcade & a nice Japanese rest. right up the street from there too...

The Museum there had a display of midevil weaponry last time I was there too

Its been a long long time since I was there but you have alot of the historical locations on your list.....
Just for the fun of it, watch the movie "National Treasure" before you go if you haven't seen it. A good portion is staged in Philly......and it is neat to think about.....
Its 5:15 pm in Indy and talking about Cheesesteak is making me awfully hungry (smile)
I have not seen the King Tut exhibit, but friends who have say it is definitely worth the time and entry fee. By the way, I think that when it was in Chicago a number of months ago, it was so popular that you, I think, needed to make reservations/ appointment to see the exhibit....might want to check on that somehow in Philly if it is something you very much want to do.....
Have a fine trip!
