Yesterday at about 3:00 p.m. we had a huge storm come through the Tulsa area. Winds as high as 85 mph it's said. Anyway it knocked our power out and we came up to Barb's brothers place so I could get online for a while and let y'all know. The power company says there's 70,000 people without power and it may be the weekend before everything is fixed.:( :grumpy:
It's the drizzlin $hitz because the people across the street and even next door to us on the south side have power. It seems every time the weather hiccups the power in our little section goes down, maybe a half dozen houses and the bar on the corner. I imagine that we're pretty low priority even though we have people in our row of houses that are much worse off than I and they really depend on the power grid!!!! :grumpy:
Fortunately it's not too hot and is supposed to only reach 80* today and with a chance of rain the rest of the week the temperatures may hold, hopefully, or we may have to rent a motel in order to be able to sleep cool.
When I was young and healthy we didn't have the luxuries that I'm used to and familiar with today and the heat didn't bother that much but it damned sure does now, done got old and soft. ;)
Even our phone depends on electricity to operate but Barb is off now with our sister in law to Walmart where hopefully she can pick up a cheap phone and other needed items.
So if anyone who has our number's needs to contact us please use our cell phone number if you can't get through on our land line.
We tried to call Nasty and his soulmate but all we got was a recording so that made our trip up here necessary because it is history that if one of us isn't here for a few days the others worry 'bout us and I didn't want that.:D ;)

Yvsa, roughing it in Oklahoma.:(

PS Reminds us both of the early old days when we were both growing up and only had coal oil lanterns and battery powered radio.
Talk radio is still alive and well. The only thing changed is the announcers and the times. Politicians is still the subject of choice. I'm really glad to hear they're bashing the hell outta John Kerry and his bunch!!!! Back when I was a kid it was the GOP usually being bashed.:D

Yvsa, sorry to hear about your lack of power, but it sounds like you've got the right attitude. Battery powered radios and oil lamps make for nice relaxing evenings, assuming the power outage doesn't last too long :) I hope the rain keeps your temps down. We've had unseasonably cool weather this year where I live, but I think that's about to end. It's been in the upper 90's the past few days, and we're supposed to hit 101 tomorrow.

sorry to hear it
for once -our- power stayed on through the rain & wind.
I'm almost shocked to have electric today
hope they get to you sooner this time

Yvsa- I'm on the weak link in our town- we share a line with the REservation, and when something breaks it is on our side 75% of the time. IN winter this gets exciting.

Pick up a REALLY long extension cord while you're out and string it to neighbor's house with power. :)

Keep safe Yvsa. Weather her ein OK can be a real pain, but seems your situation there is a lot better than it could have been.

Yvsa

I just went 20+ hours without power due to a bad storm here. That was long enough. We cooked meals on a Coleman stove. But going several days has got to be rough.

Hang in there.

Yvsa...you're welcome here any time for as long as you want to stay!

Back up at the sister in law's place. Had to run up and notify a forumite on another forum that I got the knives we made a deal on and that I was happy with them.*:D
Going on 72 hours without power now. There's s'possed to be 3 hours of entertainment shows on radio tonight like Amos & Andy and the like. Sorta reminds me of when I was a kid, we didn't get a TV until 1953!!!!
Getting tired or reading with AA powered flashlights at night and we're gonna have to stop on the way home and stock up on batteries again. Good thing we had a good stockpile or would've been up $hit creek without a paddle.;)

*Got three NIB 52100 steel Marble's, an Expert, Hunter with leather handles and a Woodcraft with maple handle for $175.00!!!! Helluva deal!!!! :D
