Were older VG-10 Spydies harder?

I have Delicas in the #3 and #4 configuration and always can get the older models to take and hold an edge longer and keener.
That's with equal sharpening skills.

Could this be?

Lavan,

Had similar question regarding Victorinox. However, the answer to the questio might be different.

In my case, it's because my sharpening has evolved to result in thinner angle.

You might have different experience if you just sharpened both at same time.

PS: your sharpening off serration of Bundeswehr OHT was what inspired me to do mine, lin turn led to the above question between older Bundeswehr vs newer OH Sentinel.

I usually DO do both at about relatively the same time. Maybe a matter of weeks between.
It just seems that the Gen 4 goes dull quicker.

Oh .. Ok

Mine is years apart (in term of production). The Bundeswehr has oval hole, the OH Sentinel has he newer hole + more protruding lock release.

How old is your Gen 4? I have got Endura4 5 or 6 years old. It is harder to sharpen than newer Spydercos I have got. And it does not hold the keen edge particularly well.
I do not have that problem with any of my newer VG10 Spyderco's. My guess is that they have somehow improved the HT consistency or have moved their HT settings slightly. So there wouldn't be the perfect samples like yours, but on another hand, no problems like mine neither. Handling production batches is not the same as individual samples in the lab - you can not expect all the parameters to be perfect every time for every knife. Have to make sure that the outliers would not create problems for a customer.
