Were pre-XHP/AUS Taiwan knives originally marked with the steel?

And was it AUS-8? Just curious as I have an Espada Large with "Espada" on one side, "Cold Steel Taiwan" on the other. Approx when is this from, this is real, right?

I recall seeing some models marked with AUS-8, but many that were AUS-8 were simply marked Taiwan with no steel designation. Espada was one of them.

Didn't know a Medium without wave existed! Or, got it confused with a large.

Who'd carry a small Espada, I wonder. 😂

This might be a bit out of the depth of the question, but in case you have any idea, would you say the end bolster could be replaced? Looking for a cheap alum handle for a large to put a DLC XHP blade on. Might not even be compatible with the old ones, but... it is tempting.

Not sure about the bolster, never owned one.

I got blessed today. Got a beautiful dyeable (to burgundy) large XHP AND a black XHP XL Espada... for less than the amount that the normal retail AUS10A Larges...

Some people don't know what they have. Still thinking about that Espada I started this thread about it so I can have a XL and large alum Espada with black XHP blade...

I managed to find two XHP larges, actually, for good prices. I got really lucky - both were cheaper than a normal, modern version. And the fancy AUS8 Large I mentioned? $99, plus 11 beater knives.
Thought one was an XL, but both were Large, oh well, I do like that too, but the XL is the "ultimate Espada".
Yes, just like that Tuxedo Espada, that gave me the idea, actually!

The other is a bright tan color which I know dyes well to scarlet/burgundy, want to make a "vampiric" looking one for Halloween!

Leaving me with an old AUS-8 Large on a dark brown handle.
 
That ‘tuxedo’ is such a cool idea. It would look cool with a black pocket clip too, from the G10 version. Not sure if dude in the video changed the Clip out as well, didn’t get a good enough look
