West Epoxy?

Hi guys, I have been using CONAP epoxy but it is time to order some new so I thought I would switch to the West system based on what I have seen here on the forums. Now I thought I had it all figured out and was going to go with 105 resin, 209 Hardener and 404 Filler. Then I went to their website and I see they have this special epoxy called G/Flex that seems to have very good properties for knifemaking. Has anyone tried the G/Flex or have advice to offer. I can find references to the West System in Search but nothing on G/Flex. Is it new?
Thanks, Kevin

+1 for G-Flex. It is great and I use it now instead of acraglas. Sticks better to oily woods like blackwood, desert ironwood,etc... Get it at AKS of course.

I have not used the G/Flex but I have been using WestSystems for years on my race boats, and now on knives. Some of the best stuff around. I don't know what quantity you are planning to buy, but they hae some cool metering pumps for the gallon size and up. Some cool stuff I've tried is I have mixed 25% by volume grahite powder to make cast in place bearings, and 50% by volume Al powder and it can then be easily machined and will look like aluminum (sort of). Do some shopping around the marine sites/chandleries for the best price, I usually get mine around $100/gallon for 105/205.

I've been using the thickened G-Flex; it doesn't drip all over the place. That stuff is unbelievable. I think West Systems uses some type of rubber additive to make it very impact resistant. The resin and hardener mixes in a 1:1 volume ratio, not like some of the other West Systems epoxies that need to be mixed in some other proportions.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like it is time to order some G/flex!

It is great stuff, I managed to bend a knife with 1/8" g10 scales glued on it with the G-Flex to a banana shape and there was no seperation. I recently had to remove some scales attached with G-Flex and it was an all day affair.

I'm just about out of my Devcon, and I have two bottles of the West Systems G-Flex ready to go that I got from Chuck and Jessica at AKS. From what I hear it works really well so I'm looking forward to using it. There is lots of good feedback out there on it so you probably are not going to go wrong by choosing it.

Troop, where did you locate the thickened G-Flex. I did not see any that was stated as being thickened at AKS. Thanks
