I'm going to try some G/Flex 650 on a couple of kit knives I'm putting some wood handles on. I wanted to know if I can use rubbing alcohol to clean up where the epoxy sqeezes out after I clamp it. Alcohol works on some epoxies I've used. I'd rather not mess with acetone or other harsh chemicals if I don't have to.

Thanks

G-flex is awesome. I've never gone back. Acetone on a cheap Q-tip works great. However, you could actually try some alcohol on your knives, you know... :-)

Good to know, I'm almost out of acetone and now it looks like I don't need to buy any more. I don't like the greasy film it leaves anyway.

After starting out using Devcon 2 Ton epoxy I have switched over to West Systems slow cure G-Flex and have never looked back. I've done some testing with this stuff and it is tough! Glued up some scales and slabs and after two days of curing beat them with a hammer, threw them against concrete, etc. and they held fast. I'm very happy with the stuff.

LOL, maybe I go overkill....but after having a set of scales come apart early on in my making I decided to be super cautious. I don't like the film left by acetone either, so I first clean the handle slabs, liners, and tang with acetone and then do it again with rubbing alcohol, and it works nicely without leaving any residue. When doing final glue up I just use Q-Tips and alcohol and it works really well.

My wife sees the number of Q-Tips I go through and says I'm definitely not running a "green" shop:D
