Hi folks. I just picked up a Western, 2-bladed, folding hunter. Tang stamp is Wester over USA over 062. The knife is in pretty nice shape. The scales are jigged delrin and the blades, though shiny, have some black spotting here and there that suggests they are carbon steel. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me the basic time period during which this knife was produced? Were they usually offered in both carbon and stainless, only one not the other, or different at different times? I got the sheath with it, also pretty good shape overall, if that would give any indications of time frame. I'd scan it in, but it's on my hip right now. :D Anything folding hunter related is welcome too.

This makes a real nice, traditional, woodsy companion to my Western 71.

I have been cleaning up some old boxed stuff in my barn, I found the same knife, this must be about 20 years or older.

hi, i think the 062s with the delrin handles started in the mid 70s, the earlier models had bone at least according to their catalogs. i found a 1978 catalog listing a delrin but ive got one in my collection which is older than that, so my guess is early to mid 70s, when they started with the delrins

Thanks, Mine is Bone so it's older nice, it is old and rough being in the barn for years, maybe 25 or more!! I cleaned it up but still rough I might just carry it it's a nice heavy knife!

Thanks for the responses. Mine came with a sheath and is on my hip now. I'm really pleased with this one. The blades sharpened up nicely with the skinner naturally being the finest edge and reserved for fine cutting, while the clip does general duty quite well. Since my Western 71 fixed blade is the same era it makes a nice combo. I know, I said that already, but it's true.

Thanks again, folks.

P.S. Mashduck, I can't help on where to find a sheath. Good luck.

I cleaned mine up also it's about 35years old I found out yesterday. I cleaned it and sharpend the blades just like you nice edge on the older knife!

That worked. A fine old Camillus. Mine is a bit later I'm sure as it doesn't have the lanyard hole, whiich I wish it did. I've quickly grown attached to this one.

thanks amos iron wolf, this knife came out of a basement where its been sitting since about 1973, made in boulder colorado.it was still a western made one.if you want good info on these try and get the book knifemakers who went west, tons og pics and descriptions from various years of the western brand, and for an earlier post the catalogs say they did come with molded leather sheaths.thanks

Yes I do not have the Lanyard hole on mine , so It must be later, but wow those blades look great!! on yours thanks for the pic
