Got questions about two knives I just picked up.
Does anyone know how to date a Western lockback? I just pick up a Western 532 H and wondered when it was made.
Tang stamp is
WESTERN
USA 532
H
The blade is plain. No animals.

The other is a Schrade 47OT. Was wondering when they stopped making these?
Tang stamp is
SCHRADE+
USA 47OT
Ducks Unlimited on the scales.
Update. Like a dummy I forgot to search the forums. But now have found the info on the Schrade.
47OT Beast 1997-2004

Thanks. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Western is from 1984. In 1977, Western went to an alphabet stamp for the dating - 77 = A, 78 = B, 79 = C, 80 = D, 81 = E, 82 = F, 83 = G, 84 = H ........

Thank you. I sort of thought this may be the case but the older gentleman said he had bought it new just a few years ago and the sheath it came with is mint. Maybe he bought new old stock somewhere.
In hindsight, I should have asked him if he still had the box and paperwork.
But thanks for the info. The knife is in very good shape. I think I got a good deal. Knife and sheath 25$ CAD.

Yes, you did well. A few years there was still a fair amount of old stock around that was held by a few dealers, so it's possible.

Thanks.
The 47OT was really beatup. Looked like it had spent sometime on the jobsite but I only paid 2$ CAD for it and it actually cleaned up okay.
