Found this old Green River Russell skinner at a flea market. Such a colorful history for this knife maker.... a favorite of Native Americans and the trappers who traded with them.

Nice thread !!!
The checkering pattern on the thistle is similar to that found on many current Russell Green River knives. I have a small selection I would love to post except my photo fu is impaired by recent changes to the site. I have not seen this checkering anywhere else. These knives include the 4215 fish knife, a long-time favorite of mine.

I'm in the same boat Henry! It's not the same when you are unable to add a photo and I'm not about to start erasing older photos, too many are gone already.
My crappie phone won't use a hosting site and I'm not on my puter much any more. I'll just keep lurking and hope for the best.

How long is the cowboy Bowie blade? If about 5 to 6 inches I also, call them cowboy bowies. They got smaller and more prtaical I size as firearms became more reliable and more rounds. Here is a pic of my favorite small cowboy Bowie by Mike Mann. Shown before, sorry, back to topic now.😀

Very nice 😊 I have an almost identical knife, by Joseph Elliott of Sheffield on my kitchen wall. It gets used as a bread knife sometimes 👍

That's a Sheffield 'Town Pattern' Bowie 😊👍
Not a "Green River" but certainly early fur trade, this I Wilson dates to 1828

Interesting brand, not far from me but I wasn’t familiar with them.
