I turned back around, much to my children’s dismay, when I spotted a garage sale this morning that looked like it had tools.
I was correct, and was holding a nice set of vintage hedge clippers in my hand while eyeing a pickaxe when I spotted a knife.
It was dirty but I saw what looked like bone handles. I picked it up and took it out of the sheath, expecting to see a cheap import. Instead, I see a Western! Under the dirt the handles were definitely jigged bone framed by either wood or micarta.
I escaped with my finds for a grand total of $7, and worked on the knife this evening. There is a chip that still remains because it was so deep, but the knife cleaned up well overall! No chips or cracks in the handle and the blade took a nice edge after a LONG time evening out the bevil. I still am not sure what the striped part of the handle is made from, but micarta is my best guess. I tried to look up tang stamps but didn’t find a match- can someone help me with the timeframe for this knife??
I started to show my wife and she dismissed me with a hand wave and a “go make a post and show your knife friends who care” :)

Thanks for taking a look!!

Blade profil screams "66". However, I don't think Western made a bone handled 66. Leather (L66) Wood (W66) Fiber and Aluminum (F66 "Black Beauty") are the only ones I know of.
The striped portion may be individual washers.

The two pins and their location in the pommel hints it's a split tang. A rehandled L66 maybe?

Great find.

The chart above is what I used, but there is not an exact match for the stamp on the this one. This one is split tang as you guessed fishhunter.
Thank you for the input!
