Western Knife Steel ?

My work buddie asked me to sharpen his Western pocket knife. It is marked Western USA & 292 D is stamped on the other side of the blade. It turned out scary sharp & I was wondering what type of steel Western used. Thanks!

Best guess would be 1095. Assuming it's an older Western. I think the Western name was off in the wilderness for a few years before Camillus got hold of it.

If not 1095, a similar hi-carbon steel.
