I own a a circa 1960? Western Bowie. I am only guessing at its age. Not looking for price as I would never part with it. I still use this for my main bushcraft tool. Are there any others here that own these? I would just be interested in hearing from others that own these. I have looked at similar modern survival knives in its class to replace it and I just cannot. The only reason I would even think of replacing it is the handle was customed by the person that passed it along to me and I feel almost guilty using it due to its timeless beauty.

Then again I feel guilty NOT using it because this knife has probably another hundred years of use in it.

Just a few images of this beat-up beauty. The backstory on this knife is the owner I recieved it from took a horse from New Mexico to Montana sometime in the 60's. On his return trip, he was approached by an individual who commented that he liked his spurs. So the spurs were taken in trade for the Bowie.

How I came into its possession was this same individual trained me in bushcraft in the Sacramento Mts in the early 90's. During our 7 day excursion I commented how I liked this knife. In true fashion he initiated a trade for the knife I then owned. So you can see from its history why I am so attached to this particular knife. The scabbard was made by the person I got it from about 40 years ago. Still is very functional. Hilt artwork was done by him as well.
