Not sure where to post this so I will put it here as Camillus and Western were related at the end. During Camillus manufacturing of the traditional Western branded sheath knifes I assume they were of the 400 series stainless steel as the Camillus knives were using. Before this time and the Westerns were being made in Colorado, was the steel stainless or carbon?

There were both Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel, depending on the year and the model. For example, in 1980, the Stainless Steel models had an S in front of the pattern number.

For example a S-H48B was a stainless the 48B was Carbon.

More than likely there were more carbon than stainless the further back you go, but Western and Western States did have stainless blades in their product line way back when.

Hope this helps.
