Sounds great. I'll need to bring a Dutch oven as well, so that I can learn. Chicken? Yes. Chili? Yes. Any food source? Yes.
If I can beat it two falls out of three, I'll eat it. I still have some ground Elk as well as roasts and steaks..........
I just interviewed for a great job. So we'll see in the next few days as to what the time off scenario is like.
I don't care where we go as long as we can get together.
Roger, did you get the Job? How are things looking for you? Ryan, what about you? I'm good for anytime as long as I can get a ride.
Ruger an Elk Chili would be awesome if you don't mind donating about 3 pounds for that. The Chili Recipe I came up with calls for 3 pounds of ground or cubbed meat and a 12" Deep (8 quart) dutch oven. It feeds 8 to 10 guys.
Anyone have a preference for location as of yet? Below I've listed my main picks here in Central Utah. The location and things to do there. Hope that helps. Most of the places are close to Spring City which has a nice little shooting range. So if we couldn't shoot close to camp we could always go there.
Lincoln Beach: Campground on Utah lake. It's about 5 minutes to a shooting range and about 25 minutes from my apartment here in Provo. Close to stores. Payed camping. Has Running water and Restrooms
Maple Canyon: which is just east of Spring City where I grew up. Accesible from the Spring till late fall and in the winter with 4x4's. It's also about 70 minutes south of Provo. Has great hiking, biking and rock climbing spots. Payed and free camp sites avaliable. No shooting in the canyon. 15 to 20 minutes from Spring City. Restrooms and running water at the payed sites.
Huntington Res AKA Mamoth Lake: Up Fairview Canyon in the Manti-Lasal National forest in Central Utah. Just over 9,000 feet above sea level. Accesible year round. But tons of ice and snow in the winter. Great spot for Camping, Hiking, fishing and Four wheeling. Last fall the forest service started putting in a 4 wheeler trail around the lake. Can't shoot at the lake but there are places close by that we probably could. 30 minutes from Spring City. Restrooms at the lake and at the campsites, water at campsites. Oh yeah it also has a boat launch.
Spring City Camp Ground AKA The Mode Hole: Up Spring City Canyon about 7 miles and it's about 7,400 feet above see level. Free camping sites with a large group side and fire pit. Lots of springs around and some cool hikes. 15 Minutes from Spring city. Rest rooms and running water (purify before drinking)
Mount Nebo: Cotton Wood Campground is close to the Nebo Bent trail head by Nephi Utah. About 30 miles from Spring City and I think it's about 50 minutes there. It's just over an hour from Provo. The campsite is about 6,500 feet above sea level. Free camping with individual campsites but can also acomidate groups. Good place for Camping, Hiking, biking and fly fishing (a few miles down the road). Restrooms but no water. Accesible late may to October.
Again, those are my preferences and places I know really well.
