I have the knife listed above and I have 2 questions: What kind of finish does this knife have? What year was manufacture?
Thanks to anyone who may help!

Well, I'm trying to polish off the blackish, light rust, finish. I was looking at buying a polishing motor, wheel, and polishing compounds, but there are certain compounds for certain finishes. I have no idea what to use.

If you are trying for retain maximum collector value, removing the "patina" is a bad idea. If you just want to polish it up and turn into a user, that's something that could be discussed in the Maintenance and Tinkering forum. Moving the thread there.

Pics would be a big generator for more useful feedback.

As mentioned, too much refinishing & polishing might detract from it's collector value, if that's important to you.

I would just like to clean it up a bit. I use it for hunting purposes. Thanks for everyone's help!

That k is the date code for I believe 1987.

That " blackish rust finish " is patina.
The 1095CV carbon steel blade has developed a patina over the years, it is not a bad thing at all, in fact this is a good thing.
It is evidence of the knife's history, and it is providing a protective barrier against rust.
A carbon steel blade with patina is much less prone to developing rust than one without it is.

"K" is the date code. "D" was 1980, so "K" is 1987, if they used the letter "I" (i)
Blade steel is 1095.
