I have a western W49 Bowie that I am trying to find info on. The guard is marked Western USA on one side and W49 on the other side of the guard. The blade is the 14 inch Bowie style. The handle appears to be made of Ivory with silver nickle inlay. There is a large N which looks to be made out of ivory also surrounded by silver inlay on the end of the pummel.
This is what I have been told about the knife. That it was made after WW2 but before Vietnam. It was supposedly custom made at Western as a presentation piece for an Officer in the Army or Marines His widow gave it away and I purchased it from a third party. Who got it from his wife's dad when he passed.
How can I find out if the handle is ivory?
Does anyone know if Western ever made presentation pieces?
How do I find info out about the knife?

hopefully a moderator will move this to bernnard levines collectors forum. Good pictures equal good responses.
