Pre OKCA show hammer-in. We are having a one day get together at my place in Tenino, WA the Wednesday before the OKCA show. We are limiting attendance to 12 people plus possibly two folks that want to take their journeyman ABS test that day.
Ed Caffrey will be here and will demo the use of powdered steel in a billet, and heat treating 1084 and 15n20 damascus steels. Tom Ferry will be showing composite damascus assembly into a blade. Nick Wheeler demo grinding of a dagger. Roger Dole will be talking about folder making and the jigs and fixtures that he uses to do this with. We will be using gas forges, power hammers, a hydraulic press, and lots of knowledge.
Cost will be $30 and will include lunch. Please contact me (Bill Cottrell) at wcottr@ywave.com for an address to send funds to and insure you a slot for attendance as we are filling up FAST.
The schedule will look something like this:
8AM: Coffee/soda, and doughnuts, along with a show and tell/question and
answer period (bring your pretty's to show off)
9AM: Demos start off (some of this is likely going to run at the same time and you will have to pick the one (or ones) that interest you the most.
12:00: Lunch
1:00: Conduct the JS smith tests (everyone shuts down for this, out of
respect to those taking the test.)
*Resume forging and demos
4:00 or 5:00: Rope cutting/chopping demo (how to) and Tom and I can also
do a session on how to create a blade to pass the ABS tests. I'll
bring whatever I have to cut with! LOL
End of forging day (whenever that is): Have a chat session to try to answer any questions that you might have on what you have seen that day. This should be a great day with a master smith in attendance and helping all of us in our continuing efforts to improve our work.
