It's raining an awful lot here... and this is the perfect design for wet and MUDDy Oregon. Here is a small tribute to the ZT0500 MUDD, and also my HAWK MUDD... It's a tribute to one of my favorite designs and how well Kershaw maintains the original concepts of it's fantastic designers. I do have the custom, but the ZT is a monster, and built like a tank... Kershaw deserves credit for making these knives affordable.

Love the custom OE, have you tried either of them out in the mud yet?

It certainly has been rainy lately.

I took the ZT to the beach once, actually. Up until then I had resolved never to carry another knife on the beach. It doesn't matter if it never leaves your pocket, OR if you never actually touch the water or sit in the sand... knives always get sand in them. It just blows right into your pocket. It amazes me. But back to the point.... the ZT was great, no problems. It's also been wet and in the rain etc. Hardly extreme use... but it's nice to finally have a knife you never have to worry about. You can also rinse the thing off without worry for the pivot. Definitely an Oregon knife! :)

btw Thomas: thanks for the clues in your email. stay tuned.

well you have me intrigued with all this "hush hush" going n between you and Thomas OE ;). well i guess MUDD's the word huh?

love that custom also. very nice. at first i thought that it was the kershaw version with the scales wet.

Actually, I wish we would have done the MUDD up in the original size that the Hawk's designed. The 0500 is a big brute, where as the original is really a nice carry size.

Staying tuned...

Very nice, both of them, OE. That's another model I've been drooling over for the last year. When I originally saw the price for the customs a little over a year ago, I think, I thought I might just have to admire it from afar, but now with the ZT model, well........;)

I like both for different reasons. I kinda wish the custom didn't have the clip invention... although it's a good conversation piece. I should do a close up photo of that thing. Definitely not good for the ZT... good choice on your part. This is kinda strange, but the clip kind of reminds me of the inventions that the old grandfather in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would come up with. (but in a good way). They'd kinda work, but in a complicated way. Anyway, No one comes close to these guys and their ingenuity... the attention to detail is amazing. And Kershaw had big you know whats to take it on, and do so well.

Ok, I know this focuses on the custom version, but I'm sure you'll see why it relates to why I think Kershaw might have chosen not to include it on a ZT. The clip includes no fewer than 12 individual parts that I can count! The concept is that the wheels roll easily into the pocket, but keep steady going the opposite direction out of the pocket, thus making it stay in the pocket firmer than the ease of which you slipped it in would dictate. Did that make sense? Anyway between the wheels there is a cog wheel of sorts... like a gear. there is a pin which engages it and only allows it to rotate in 1 direction (going in the pocket). And it is easy to get out of the pocket, but is a bit tighter. So mission accomplished. But let's not forget the 12 parts. Anyway, I'm not going to question whether this mechanism is as fail proof as the rest of the knife, I'm sure it is. But for me it's kind of a cost/value thing. I LOVE the price point of the ZT0500. I'm guessing it would be a bit more with an additional 12 parts :D and don't get me wrong... I LOVE my MUDD.

very nice pictures! now i really want one!!!:)

the are both very cool knives!!!!! I actually gave the ZT to a friend and now I'm all giddy to get another. They really feel like different use knives. the custom is a great EDC size and feels like a EDC work knife. The ZT is a kick ass tactical that feels like you're doing it a disservice not to be out in the jungle with it. (and for those of you who have met me, you know I'm that kinda cat ;) ha!

Thanks for the pics and info OE. I really like the M.U.D.D..
Those scales would look good with carbon fiber, maybe black and red. mmmm

I was just looking at a blue and black G10 custom MUDD online, man those are nice! I would love to see a original size MUDD from Kershaw, bring it on!

Maybe that's what happened to my favorite ZT? :)

Seriously,.....was the "original" design of the ZT 0200 of a smaller version also?

I always thought the Kershaw production models followed the designer's dimentions.
