My Becker bk7 got wet in the rain today. Within a couple hours the bkade edge looked like it formed some light rust. Should i b drying and oiling this thing? I knew it would rust over time since it's not stainless but holy shit that was fast....

Carbon steel will rust pretty quick with the proper conditions and lack of maintenance. You should dry it off when your finished using it and place A coat of mineral oil before putting it away.

Wipe it dry. Wipe it with an oily rag. Mineral oil works fine. If it develops surface rust it won't hurt anything. That's not damaging rust. The next time you use it and sharpen it that will go away.

Wipe it dry and oil it after use.

Surface rust is harmless. On the edge, sharpening removes it. Elsewhere, a blue Scotch Brite pad works well.

Your BK7 is a thick chunk of steel. It would literally takes years of neglect before rust could actually damage such a blade. Sure, surface rust and pitting will look ugly, but it'll still cut and chop like new. ;)

Just an oily rag will dissolve mild surface rust. Rub it down and watch the small stuff disappear. A friend told me about this when I got my AK wet and was going to use steel wool on it. He was right! Just oil on a rag took care of it.

If you want something that drys then leaves it waxy or you can wipe it clean, use Sentry Solutions Marine Tuf Glide in either their Tuf cloth or the liquid version.
If you want clear and doesn't dry, use WD-40 Specialist Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitor. This one was a top three long term rust preventer.
The Marine Tuf glide wasn't in the test.
I don't like rust and corrosion and am on a never ending quest to find the newest and latest preventers.
Enjoy

Thanks dudes. Used some remoil and the rust dissolved a little. Will have to get some mineral spirits in the future.

Any oil will work, mineral oil and such are merely food safe. If you aren't planning on using it for food any gun oil, 3 in 1 ect will work fine.

Also flitz polish will remove light rust quickly.

This totally!:thumb up:

This is my GEC number 15 that I was using down on the Eastern shore of Maryland. Right on the Chesapeake bay, literally. Spent a long weekend with some family that are working watermen, and the knife cut bait, cleaned some nice Spot for supper. Developed some light rust in the steel liners but it just wiped away with an oily rag. Knife is still in great shape, just some darkening of the steel.

It's carbon steel, it does that. A little rust is not going to destroy your knife. There was some rust on the blade edge, but a few swipes on a stone and there was a whole new bright edge.
