Wet Fire vs. Weber fire cubes

I know someone did a comparison of these, I searched but couldn't find the thread, anyway the conclusion was that they are the very same product, that the wetfire was $7 for 8 tabs and the weber tabs are twice as big as the wetfire and were $10 from Ace hardware for 24 tabs, well heres the good part, while at the Homedepot today they were putting out the spring grilling stuff and they had the Weber tabs for $3.29 for the 24 tab package.:D
 
thanks for the heads up. i will be headed there tomorrow to pick some up. i like that they can crumble up and still light very well. that makes them extremely transportable
 
I never heard of 'wetfire.' I assume they're some kind of chemical 'pill' that burns hot and aids fire starting. I've carried candles for sixty plus years. Chop off a couple of pieces and they'll do a heck of a job drying wet wood and getting a fire going. They're cheap too and provide light when you need it.
 
I read that earlier thread on the Weber cubes and thought I would try them, they work well. If you crumble them they take a spark from my LMF and catch a spark well. You will need to keep them in the package until you need them. If you press them, they seep liquid and turn into a binder material.
I like them as another option in the backpack, they do work wet as well.
 
they seem to work the same(and may very well be the same material) tho i still prefer pjcbs.

fwiw the local hardware store sells the weber pack for $4.29(pkg of 24 cubes-which are about twice the size of wetfire cubes) regular price, and sometimes has em on two for one sale.

wow- that will save me boo koo bucks :) I swear by wetfire tinder cubes, but swear at the price :D
 
I have been playing with both and i have come to this conclusion....

Styrofoam base soaked with some sort of petroleum product..........wreaks havoc on "O" ring seals in my otterboxes...........lights great though.........but leaves clothes, fingers, food wreaking of lighter fluid.......
 
I keep mine in the foil pack (wet tinders) and then put them in a small ziplock- they are my "when all else fails" tinder- I know they are going to light :)

I have a little ti wetfire stove (dandy little stove btw) and tried the wetfire cubes vs Esbit cubes- the Esbit cubes are far more efficient and that's what I carry for the stove, but I still pack two wet fires just for emergency fire starting
