Wet forming leather ?

Has anyone ever tried wet forming leather using a kydex press? It seems that you could allow it to dry in the press and it would wet form pretty well. What say you?

Anything is worth a try at least once. :D

Although, I'd not let it sit in the press as you stand a good chance of the leather molding as there is not enough airflow to allow proper drying.

I have done something like that with some forms for cases. Dwayne is right about leaving it in too long but overnight seems to be ok. However, be aware that any, and I mean any, surface texture or defects in your press materials will be embossed into the leather. Also differences in areas of pressure will result in some areas darker than others.

What kind of press material did you use?

also any iron or carbon rich metals will blacken the leather, if you are trying to leave the natural color. not a big deal if you are going to dye it afterwards.
ask me how i learned that , hahaha.

I have used pvc trim material(1 x 6, 8 10) with pretty good results. I leave overnight and take out the next day.
