i am wondering if i wrap an izula in wet paracord will it rust the engravings on the handle? i know that the steel is 1095 so that it is prone to rust.

yes it will, if you want to wet wrap it put some wax over the laser etch in the handle.

yeah i was thinking something like ultra clear scotch tape, but the wax idea is good

Yes, definitely stick with wax. Not scotch tape. Maybe a semi-waterproof tape at least, and an epoxy style dip at best.

Let us know how it turns out. Why are you wrapping it wet anyways?

Yes, when wet nylon will stretch, then when dry, it tightens up a little bit.

the paracord tightens even further when it dries...at least that's what i've read. never tried it myself.

That I can tell you is somewhat true. What really shrinks is the strands inside.(7-8 Strands on 550 and 4Strands on 650)

I have yet to wet-wrap any knife, but a little more pressure will do the job

I wet wrapped mine prior to buying the scales, and did not have any rusting of the etches. Just make sure your paracord isn't dripping wet, and it should be fine. If you're at all worried, put a light costing of oil over the etches prior to wrapping.

And to the nay-sayers, the paracord will absorb water, and does in fact tighten ever so slightly upon drying.

Yes, it will tighten very slightly. Just about as much as it would if you tugged on it a bit more.

I have not tried wet, but it should work out.

A little safety note : You should tape the blade up when wrapping. These little guys have a habit of biting.

Agreed - get the cord damp/wet (not soaked) and keep it very taught when wrapping it. When it dries it will shrink up and tighten down nicely.

The converse is true as well - if you wrap something with 550 cord dry and it gets very wet it will loosen up.

Knots that are tied wet will be VERY hard to untie once they dry, too.

Yes and tape the blade before you wrap it. :D

Good point! (no pun intended)

I actually wrapped mine while sheathed, but decided I prefer the knife bare.

I tried several different wraps with cord, gutted cord, leather, etc. Just like it skeletonized best.

So did I and while tying the finishing knot, I got 4 stitches for my trouble. It seems to be I'm not the only one who has pulled that stunt.
