Some people were saying that I wouldn't be able to build a fire with wet wood, so I went a little overboard. Enjoy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has problems using a firesteel, however you have an excuse of using wet wood, I just suck with it!

It's a good try, but you don't start fire exactly how I do it, so your technique is wrong.

I always arrange my kindling smallest to largest, right to left. You went left to right. And I collect my shavings on a bandana not in a cup.

Hopefully you can improve your skills so you can survive if you ever find yourself in a wet environment like the jungle.

:D

Great video. Your firesteel aim is slightly better than mine. I went back to the LMF type rod, because I could never get the Misch metal sparks to go where I wanted.

The best way I know to do the firesteel is to set the end of it on a hard surface right smack ass in the middle of the tinder. I couldn't do it that way this time because the bark I had the shavings on was wet.

And, honestly, I know you were being funny with the arranging and stuff, but that is the level of ridiculousness that people got to with the first video. LOL! The interwebs. I make it a point NOT to argue on the internet, but I'm not above posting a video with a little monkeybusiness in it.

Nice video. I like that you showed all the trouble lighting it. I've never seen scraping like that.

Great video as always, it's always a nice surprise to see a new thread by you

I think you get a persistence badge as well as your kindling badge for that one! Congratulations :)

Thanks for taking the time to video this. You deserved abrew after that effort.

I too have had difficulty with the 'withdrawal method' when using a ferro-rod. It can be hard to stop yourself/hand from flailing into your tinder.

I favorited the video as I feel its a genuinely the most educating video on how to start a fire from using natural tinder and a firesteel + knife. Thanks!

Very informative videos, thanks for takin the time to show your technique. What kind of wood was it you were using exactly?

Wet wood is a pain in the ass. Last april i went on a hike under atrociuos conditions...driving rain in literally freezing conditions. I arrived at the campsite an hour before nightfall. I tried to get a fire going and i got it going but i couldnt sustain it. Everything was soaked to the core and i was rushing it because i was freezing and needed that fire before dark. In the end i gave up and crawled into my sleeping bag. The next morning i gave it a go again and got that sucker going. Preparation is key when making a fire in adverse conditions.

Glad you are liking the video and thanks for suggestions. I think I said twice in the video that I'm not a master of fire. I'm just an average guy from Iowa and I'm very happy to be that. Propthepolecat loves the story. Been there and thanks a ton for sharing.

Did y'all notice the stealth BK-16 review? I would listen a lot more to a review seeing the guy actually using it instead of the usual shots of the knife on a desk with 2 hands or something. LOL! I'm working on product placement, although the only items eligible for placement are the ones I bought myself, I believe in and no one is paying me for.

Why thank you for clearing that up for me Arkanian! How could i have missed that it was the elusive Wet Wood brand of timber! My bad, haha

It is a pine of some sort. I showed the needles/bark in my video. I haven't made positive ID but I can usually get just about any wood to burn if processed that way so I just threw it in a bucket of water and went with it. It is what I had handy.
