Hi,

I just received a Wetterling Carpenter's axe from a reputable dealer. It looks great and I really like the dimensions.

My question, however, is that it doesn't have the company's stamp on the head. Is it likely that an axe would come from Wetterling without the stamp being hammered in??

Thanks,
:)

I've got a couple of wetterlings from different time periods and all of mine have the stamp -- but I don't have a carpenters axe (keep meaning to get one..) so maybe they're different and/or wetterlings made them for another brand at some point and thus left their mark off.

For what it's worth, the wetterlings carpenters axe design is pretty different from other carving axes than I've seen -- flatter blade shape than some, the little boxy maul poll on the back -- so if it's got the right design characteristics, I'd say it's a wetterlings.

Thanks, Dogwood. I suspect it is a Wetterling - I did get it from a good dealer. I have a couple other Wetterlings and they all have the stamp so I was just wondering.

Thanks again,
:)

They made some mass produced machined axes. Perhaps they stamp the hand forged ones and not the machine stamped models?

My father just gave me a weterlings carpenters axe that is a few years old and it also has no mark on the head. For what it's worth.
