Anyone have one of these that could give me their thoughts? I've already got a GB Wildlife in that size class, which is great, but part of me just wants to give the Wetterlings profile a try. Just wondering if the 1.5" difference affects handling at all, or if its noticeably heavier or lighter, etc.

Any thoughts are welcome! I've got a cart full of goodies at Ben's Backwoods and can't decided whether to add the Wetterlings! :)

Forgot to add: If anyone has a pic of one next to a Fiskars or GB Mini/Wildlife, that would be super duper.

Spooky,
i'd go for it.
i have several short handled hatchets. i like them. one is a bench hatchet i use , well, on the bench to trim out rough wood.
very handy, the small ones.

Oh yeah, Ben's good people! Always answers my nagging questions, haha.

I've been on kind of a hatchet kick lately and wanted to scratch the itch...

Hiya Spooky. I bought one about 4 months ago , to throw in the bush kit. I have some other axes and hatchets , but the old skewl Wetts just cut so nice !! I know most others prefer the longer 19" , but not I . Super handy as a " fire starting axe " ie: preparing kindling , shavings , etc. And it fits in the backpack nicely if you're going light. When it comes to bigger duties , I carry my all-steel Estwing ( blue steel handle , 30 " or so . )

to my hand it handles much lighter than it's some what larger brother.

I've got the mini wetterlings, 10" handle I think, great little tool, like Hiwa, its perfect for making kindling if your not into a large knife.

Love that group photo.:D

Thanks for all the input guys! I actually bit the bullet and got it along with some other goodies as a Christmas present to myself. Also have the heavy-duty emergency blanket coming (gonna be very interesting, I'm excited), a Kellam Wolverine, and a new wool watchcap as I lost my last one...

Obviously pics and a review will follow for each item!

I bet you'll love the handle on the wolverine!
I really like that puukko but could never get the spine to spark a ferro rod good enough.
enjoy your haul...

Yeah, I'm stoked about that one. My first Kellam actually. I did hear about the soft spine like you said, which is a bit unfortunate.
