Been looking for a new 19" axe and decided on the Wetterlings Bushcraft Axe.

Ben's Backwoods is out of stock, anyone know of a good place to find one?

Also, what's the difference between the Wetterling's 19" Bushcraft Axe and the 19" Hunter's axe?

Thanks!:D

Joe, as far as I can tell the long hunter's axe and the bushcraft axe are the same thing. Seems some places label them a bushcraft axe, depending on how they feel they should market them.

Can't help you on where to get one, I got mine from bensbackwoods a few months ago.

The back of the head (the dull part) of the Hunter's Axe is rounded to be used when skinning.I have the Hunter and it's a good axe. That rounded thing isn't the best for hammering, because it tends to split the pieces of wood I hammer :D

Thanks for the response guys.

Helpful info on the differences ZombaiO, thanks!

I'll keep searchin'!

your gonna love the 19 in hunter/bushcraft axe. Rocketbomb is on the money one the marketing.
Sharpens and holds an edge similar to good 1095, with a 7 in saw it is all I have ever needed for backpacking and hiking, even in the snow.
I think only gransfors has the round polled skinner

Wetterlings are the everymans gransfors

I bought a husqvarna 26in limbing axe collecting dust on a garden shop's discount rack last year. They are made by wetterlings and identical to the small forest axe , look into the husqvarna's you can sometimes get them cheaper than branded wetterlings for some strange reason. We talked for a half hour about his ridgeback from a pic and he gave it to me for 40$.
After that I picked up the husqvarna small 20in splitting axe and their big maul, gotta love real swede axes.

Hello Brad,

Thanks for the info and tip on Husqvarna's!

Hope all is going well with your property projects!

sheath is really quite sturdy with a good belt loop so the axe is carried poll down with the handle angled behind you about 30 degrees. Pretty good snap on it.Makes it easy to slip through stuff without the handle snagging.
The loop makes it really easy to put on the packside.

Nice. Just ordered one.

Will be of use to me this year in the Sierra's.

thanks guys!

hey joe
call them and make sure they measure the cutting edge on the one you are getting, there has been some talk of some being short as 2.75 in.
I just measured my user and the edge is 3in even and on my spare 3 and one eight
should not matter too much, they shorten the beard a little square.

delete some posts, you are all full

I bought myself 3 wetterlings awhile back - the hatchet, the bushcraft axe and the larger 25" axe. They are all great quality, great sheath, and sharp as f#@k from the factory. I've used my big axe to chop down both a 70' plus black oak and ponderosa pine. Both fell very easy. Great axes for the price, and they've changed my preception about axe craft.
