Wetterlings Forester's Fine - Question About the Poll

Does anyone know if the poll on the Wetterlings Forester's Fine axe is hardened? I have seen one source (a retail website) say it is hardened but most other sources just refer to it as polished (which doesn't preclude it being hardened).

Thank you in advance.

The Wetterlings site doesn't mention that the poll is hardened, and you'd think they would if it was.

By the way, I noticed that Julia Kalthoff is on a leave of absence and "owner Gabriel Brånby is temporary acting as president" of Wetterlings.

Might be a little off topic but there is a very good vid of him discussing how the company was brought back and "re-invented" back to it's roots.

I heard she is on LOA - out pregnant with the love child that belongs to M3mphis.

I was under the impression it was hardened, but I can't recall where I read that.

Btw, Visitor, that excellent talk is about Gransfors, not Wetterlings. Still worth a watch though.

Yes, considering they are owned and run apparently by the same man seems to explain the similarity in their lines. What I found interesting was his describing his research to develop axes like the "hunters" axe which was lost to history. Even picked up on the slight mock of the German at a show describing the use of the poll to his wife.
For me lol... these companies are one in the same. keeping slight differences in their lines to develop brand loyalty and imaginary competition. jmo While I'm at it- the whole young female CEO seems like a marketing game also. But it does also seem to fit with Branby's personal message which I like.

I guess we'll never know exactly how close the two companies are, but i'll say this: the handle on the wetterlings broad axe is the exact same one on the model 1900 Gransfors broad. The exact same. I guess you could think of Wetterlings as the economy brand of Gransfors, or at least an alternate brand.

If you owned an independent metal forging company and for sake of economy had to outsource for wood handles, and there weren't very many suppliers, and the primary one had an excellent reputation, what way would you go? What of your business reputation are you standing behind? A forged and carefully worked specific lifetime proposition piece of steel or a much simpler to make, entirely expendable chunk of wood?

That's actually an excellent point, 300six.

Ironically enough, the handle on my Wetterlings has less tear-out and heart wood than the Gransfors. Edge retention and craftsmanship is pretty even too, but the Gransfors is just more 'handy'.

Thanks for the info everyone (and for the informative rabbit trails :) ). I finally heard back from Wetterlings. The poll is NOT hardened. Hopefully this will be useful to others who may be searching for this information.
