I got to check one out yesterday and I must say....very nice! I had thought about getting a GB last year and got to check one out but could not justify the price when I hardly use my Fiskars. I was out shopping yesterday while on vacation and the outdoor store had Wetterlings I checked out the hatchet and I must say to an uneducated axe guy it was just as nice as the GB....maybe not the same edge but very nice. I think I found my compromise:)

I got my Wetterlings hatchet about a week ago. I haven't taken it outside yet, but am very pleased with the look/feel/finish. For the price, I am very pleased that I found this as my compromise for a GB as well.

I have both Wetterlings and Snow and Neally hatchets and both are very nice. I havent used a GB, but I cant imagine that GBs could be drastically different enough to make them significantly better than either Wetterlings or S&N. I am very pleased with both of my hatchets.

Love the wetterlings, I chose it over the GB due to head profile, the wetterlings was just something more of my taste.

The GB are made for softer woods.

It's the best bang for the buck hatchet out right now for sure since GB's prices skyrocketed. Heck, the GB mini-hatchet is now very close to $150..........

What length is yours? I bought the wildlife model (13") a couple of weeks ago. Great for backpacking. (paid $60)

I saw one yesterday as well, at a knife shop about two hours from me. I should have picked it up. Really nice hatchet.

hiwa...it was the 13". I did not get it, but it was $52.99 IIRC.

I picked up the 19" axe from Wetterlings a while back, the fit and finish was so-so. Grain was good, but alignment was mediocre. The wood was unfinished but obviously we can do that ourselves. The edge came in respectable shape though, and it's still pretty handy.

Sadly my GB Mini is just plain taking over. :D
