Just noticed that Wetterlings now makes a Hudson Bay axe.

"2 ½ pound head, total weight 3 pound with handle, hickory handle overall length 60 cm (about 23”). Delivered sharpened and with a sustainable leather sheath."

Prices seem to range from $175 (Canadian) for the plain version, to $350 (Canadian) for the tarted-up version with striped handle.

I'm sure Wetterlings makes good axes and I'd like to get ahold of one, but I'm not sure if I would want to be seen with the "tarted-up version". :D

I really like the HB design after I got my son a CT one. After I wedged the head "properly", it has been a useful little axe for him. The wetterlings one looks like the eye was extended s bit, to keep the attachment more secure but resulting in more weight. I would wager, though that if the profile is good, the wetterling hb may outchop a Sc. Forest axe... Just another good option for those willing to spend more than I :)!

Far out!
Take the lo-bid materials and engineering design of a trade axe and turn it into a lavish boutique model. All without trying to correct the problems that are/were inherent to the originals. And then charge a King's ransom for the opportunity! The Swedes are definitely 'one up' on the Chinese for this. They are astutely banking on the concept that few monetary-frivolous people crave for a $5 axe wheres 1000s of fashion-conscious similarly flush folks will justify lusting over a $300-priced equivalent.

Wow, even SAKs nearly triple in price with Hudson's Bay colours. Maybe I should paint the car and try to sell it.

Hang on there. It better be a specific 2 door 'Eco' Beemer or some fashion-desirable version of a widely advertised Subaru before a set of HB stripes painted over it will increase the value.

I drive a bad axe Ford truck, the color varies depending on how deep the last mud hole was...:encouragement:

I ordered a bushman axe from self reliance outfitters and was sent a Wetterlings HB instead. Not sure if I'm going to send it back or not since it is an absolutely perfect specimen. I'm still a little pissed about it though...

The stock pickers at that outfit must unduly be smoking something if they can't even distinguish one model (bushman vs HB) from another. In deciding which way to go (keep or return) is there a serious price difference between the two?
