I can get either one for roughly the same price. But being my first axe i am not sure which one to get. Which of the two would you folks recommend? thanks

I use and like them both (we are talking about the Hudson Bay Velvicut aren't we??). If having to choose between the two it would come down to what my primary intended use would be, i.e. mostly carrying with a few bushcraft chores mixed in or really needing to lay up some wood for cold weather camping. The Velvicut is times better at felling trees and still handy for many bushcraft chores when you choke up on the handle but of course the Wetterlings is very compact and will fit in a bushcraft type pack axe sleeve. Like I first mentioned I think it mostly comes down to what you intend using the axe for....they are both high quality items. Of course one more consideration is the price, if I could find a Velvicut (usually around 130.00) at the same price as the Wetterlings Hunters Axe (90.00-100.00) I would go for the Velvicut.

I'm expecting delivery of the new Wetterlings Bushman Axe any day now and I'm eager to get my hands on it. If you look at the specs (light weight head for the size of the bit and comparatively long handle) as well as actual pictures the Bushman looks like the Swedish version of a Hudson Bay Axe. I will try to post a pic later when I'm able.

Steve
