Hello guys, I picked up a Wetterlings the other day on Ebay from Bens Backwoods and its great, love it.

But anyway, on the head where they stamp "cold forged", it looks like they stamped it and then tryed to gouge it off of the head. I say its almost certinly done on purpose, looks very deliberate.

Anybody know somthing I dont about their production that changed?

Thanks.

Wetterlings has two lines, a hand forged and a drop forged one.

Yours might have been stamped by mistake or simply was not filed/finished properly.
Wetterlings axes differ very much in their appearence, some of them are approaching the Gransfors Bruks finish, but very frequently they are left with a crude finish, filing marks etc.

Temper has wonderful posts here where he discusses and shows how to beautify Wetterling axes.

Thanks Littleknife, I think I recall seeing those posts, I'll have to search them out again.
I like the rough look of the ax, for me its a tool anyway. I know some people collect them.
