Guys,

I purchased an el cheapo DVD called Stickfighter the other day, featuring Kely McClung. It was...ummm...overpriced, shall we say. Anyway, it occurred to me that we have often seen lists of movies with interesting knives and/or knife fighting scenes in them, but what about stick movies? Between us we should be able to come up with a few. Here is my $0.02 worth.

Rush Hour - Jackie Chan uses a couple of pool cues in a bar scene

Enter the Dragon - in one epic scene Bruce Lee fights first with a long pole, then with two short sticks, then with a nunchaku

Stickfighter - Kely McClung ...errrr (I'm embarassed to admit I own this DVD!)

Showdown in Little Tokyo - the late Brandon Lee uses (briefly) a short stick

Rapid Fire - Brandon Lee again, with improvised sticks from time to time, one of my favourite movies. Lee uses improvised weapons including a drawer full of cutlery.

Any more?

Regards, Neophyte.

The Bourne Identity - Matt Damon puts two cops in the hospital by beating them with a nightstick.

The Matrix: Reloaded - Fight scene with the Marovingian's bodyguards. A short segment where he whups some ass doing the double stick thang.

Enter the Dragon(Bruce Lee using double sticks in the basement of the compound)

The Hunted(single stick work with a tree branch)

Out For Justice(Guro Inosanto vs. Seagal in some double stick work)

ecks vs sever...
short segment using collapsible batons against 5/6 in close quarters

I'd forgotten Pale Rider. I'd also forgotten Jet Li in Kiss of the Dragon, where Li takes on a class of cops learning nightstick, takes first one then a second nightstick off the cops and whips them all. Of course the cops were French, so maybe that doesn't really count for much...

Regards, Neophyte.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "The Perfect Weapon". Not the best acting, but good stickfighting. Jeff Speakman's character starts a scene using a mop handle as a bo. One of the bad guys breaks it in half. Speakman shrugs his shoulders then takes him out with stickfighting. Then there's the end where Speakman carries a pair of sticks in an over-the-shoulder back-holster thingy.

I remember some stick work in one of the "First Blood" movies. I think it was Part III. Stallone against an opponent for cash.

There was also some "caveman club" action in those old "Walking Tall" movies. Joe Don Baker played some Sheriff that carried around this crazy homemade baseball bat.

Just had to mention the sledgehammer fight in this 80's movie, "Streets of Fire". I guess it kinda counts!

The Perfect Weapon is one of my favorite fighting movies, if you guys haven't seen it you should!
:D

"Pacific Connection" with Dean Stockwell
This was choreographed by Professor Remy Presas back when he still lived in PI. In Remy's old book Eskrima (1975) you see a lot of picure of Dean Stockwell doing techniques.

"Arnis - Sticks of Death" with Rolland Dantes
I'm not sure if this was also choreographed by Proefessor Presas, but lots of Arnis fighting. The opening shows a pile of rattan canes that were filmed in stop-motion so they move on their own to spell out the title!

"Fire in the Night" with Graciela Casillas
Not much stickwork, but some, and Filipino dancing to boot.

Best of all,

Pete Kautz

"Hawk's Vengence"-with Gary Daniels and Cass Magda

"Tomb Raider II"

"Street Knight"-with Jeff Speakman, shows a little wrench fighting

"Sharkey's Machine" featured Dan Inosanto and Jeff Imada as a couple of hitmen who worked over Burt Reynolds pretty badly with, if memory serves, escrima sticks and nunchaku.

Anyone ever read Piers Anthony's "Battle Circle" trilogy? If adapted to film, that would make the ultimate weapons movie...

I just watched Equilibrium. There is a stick fighting scene in it. The whole fight is done in reverse grip.

x:cess: Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Equil was fun. Not a great as the box makes it out to be. But still definatly a good fight movie, soon to be in my collection. The last sword fight was perfect for the tempo of the movie. Showed the perfect rage of the hero, and his true skill. And made me want a Katana to play with. Course with my luck I'd decapitate myself the first time it left the scabard.:(
