I have two questions in regards to this article. First, does anyone have the Quest? What do you think of it? The article makes it sound pretty good, but I would like your opinions.

Second, toward the end of the article, it talks about Mr. Brown giving the WH Icon to his instructors and those knives lasting about 4 years so far, but ANY other lockback giving up the ghost in 6 to 8 months. I find that pretty startling. Not that the Icon has any flaws, but it is basicly a modernized lockback. It would seem to me that a Spyderco Chinook or some similarly heavy duty lockback would hold up nearly as well, if not better than the Icon. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Richard

Only thing you are missing is more belief in your gut instint. Any decent lockback should last 10 to 20 years of hard use. This includes the $35 Buck 110. There's a lot of BS in Blade. The rag serves basically one purpose...build the hype to sell the product. WH is a big advertiser and any Blade article about an advertiser is not to be believed unless confirmed elsewhere.

That is why I asked the question here, to get a more balanced view. Does anyone else have any thoughts?
Thanks, Richard

Unless they babied the Icons and deliberately trashed every other lockback, it's a ridiculous statement. As brownshoe pointed out, the Buck 110 ... you know many of them have outlasted 6 to 8 months of hard use.

I saw this article. What is ZDP-189 and how does it compare to other steels like S30V???
